This immersive exhibition invites visitors to discover the work of Henri Rousseau, a self-taught painter and a pioneering figure in naive art. Celebrated by avant-garde artists of his time, including Delaunay, Picasso, and Kandinsky, Rousseau’s paintings transport visitors to imaginary lands. With vivid colors and a deliberate rejection of traditional perspective, Rousseau crafts poetic scenes filled with an exotic, mysterious, and captivating atmosphere.
From his iconic jungle landscapes teeming with wild animals to portraits and historical scenes, this exhibition reveals the richness and diversity of his work. Known affectionately as “Le Douanier” – a nod to his humble career as a customs officer – Rousseau invites visitors to escape and dream with their eyes wide open.
Starting from January 31 at the Carrières des Lumières, Baux-de-Provence | from February 14 at the Atelier des Lumières, Paris
