This immersive exhibition showcases the genius of the painters of the North, close to their subjects and to nature, who transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover Vermeer’s staged scenes, Rembrandt’s chiaroscuro portraits, Abraham Bloemaert’s gods, Hendrick Avercamp’s frozen expanses and Jan Steen’s festive taverns.
Van Gogh, a worthy heir to this seventeenth-century generation, finally takes visitors to the sun and night of the South. With his lively, emotional brush, he sculpts the material and in turn sublimates landscapes, self-portraits and still lifes. Like a colourful final bouquet, visitors are surrounded by nocturnal, dreamlike paintings, and lose their footing in the stars.
